1.) Why is Halloween celebrated and how did it originate?

Evolving from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, modern Halloween has become less about literal ghosts and ghouls and more about costumes and candy. The Celts used the day to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, and also believed that this transition between the seasons was a bridge to the world of the dead.  Over the millennia the holiday transitioned from a somber pagan ritual to a day of merriment, costumes, parades and sweet treats for children and adults.

1.) Why is Halloween celebrated and how did it originate?
Halloween isa yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31st October.Modern day Halloween, far from being a festival focused on the negative side of death or souls in purgatory is now embracing a fun side which is reveled in throughout various countries worldwide.Typical festive Halloween activities include Trick Or Treating, attending costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted house attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films. Halloween costumes are traditionally modeled after supernatural figures such as vampires, monsters, ghost, skeletons, witches, and devils. There are several games traditionally associated with Halloween parties.
Happy Halloween ! :)

HALLOWEEN

It is said that Halloween is celebrated to disguise themselves from the ghost, goblins, demons, etc.People disguise themselves as ghost, goblins demons,or any other types of monsters so that when they walk amongst the living they would not recognize them and would even run away . This is because that the ghost, demons, or goblins could not see their own reflection and if someone looks like them it would be weird. The people would put food at the front of their houses to please the ghost, goblins demons and others so they would not trick them into casting a spell. Hence the word "Trick or Treat" Halloween originated from the Celtic tribes in 500B.C. The people in the British, Irish and Scottish  were believed to be the descendent's of the Celtic tribe and that they believed in Samhain the lord of death . in the end of summer lord of death, Samhain would let the dead visit the living.

I finally made it to the front desk and saw a piece of paper floating down the stairs and i went to grab it the paper. There was red words on the paper saying " HELP ME". i kept the paper in a folder inside my bag.
i went upstairs to look where the paper originated from. I look at my surrounding but i couldn't see much because it was dark , luckily i dressed up for theme day at school and was a guy with a flash light. i looked around and found another piece of paper located in front of a door leading to the MPH. There was a writing on the piece of paper and it said "I AM IN THE MPH SOMEONE HELP ME". i went up the flight of stairs and saw red liquid on the floor. immediately i thought of blood but it dried out hours ago and i found out it was just paint. i went into the MPH there was many pieces of paper on the floor and all of them have footprints leading behind the stage. I went on the stage the cover was covering the stage when i went under the cover the lights were on and everyone i school jumped out and sacred me. I did not flinch but in fact i knew that this was going to happen and pretend to be frighten after that we went back to our classrooms and we saw a ghost in there everybody ran out . I said " Very funny guys this must be another prank"then i went there to take of the costume but i went through it . I was surprised and looked around there were no light anywhere knowing this i ran out of the school as fast as i can and gathered with my whole class outside. i asked them was that one of their pranks to scare me but they did not answer i could see on their expression that the ghost was not a prank and they were like traumatized. That day i found out that the school was haunted.

Halloween 2014

Hello everybody!

It's Halloween! Yay!!! XD It is celebrated every year on October 31st. The word Halloween also means All Hallows' Eve. Its origins are from a Christian festival known as Samhain. The common activities that are for Halloween are costumes dressing, trick or treat, putting up haunted houses, creating Jack O Lanterns etc :D The main thing about Halloween is to remember and respect the deads.

In the night of Halloween, kids or adults go to the neighborhood for treat or treating. The owner of the house are suppose to respond to them by giving them candies. It is stated that it happens between 5.30pm and 9.30pm.

An interesting fact is that if people want to keep ghosts away from their house, they would but food in a bowl to let them eat rather than let them in their home. People would leave their homes after dark so that the ghosts will think that they're spirits and not humans.

             Happy Halloween!!! Have fun! :P

Halloween!!!

Good day!
It's Halloween!!! I had to research about Halloween, Halloween is about to remember the souls of Christian people that had passed away. It is a day when the dead rise to see the living. They would walk around the land. People dress up so that they could confuse the dead or ghosts,

Halloween was originated as Catholic vigil, also called as Hallow's Evening, or Allhalloween. Halloween is celebrated because by many people, they think it's the only season where people can be super spooked than any other day. Some, for spiritual reasons.

But of course, people also like trick or treat! Kids absolutely love them. There is trick or treating during Halloween is because it means it is offering food to other people but over the years, it became candy than food XD.

  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Virtue Of The Month October 2014 : Empathy

Hello everyone!

The virtue of the month is Empathy! :D I personally think empathy is a person understanding other person's feelings and experiences by sharing it with them. Empathy is a good way to be for a person because it can make others feel happy as you're an understanding person. You must treat others like the way you want to be treated as it will be fair and square. You must care for others as they have to right to be respected :) Everyone is the same. Would you rather teased others or treat them nicely? Of course treating them nicely is better as they have feelings too. It's not like there's one special person, who doesn't have an identity or belong to a community. So, I think empathy is really important to every single one of us in the world :)

We should care for each other feelings, not by blaming each other.

Virtue Of The Month : EMPATHY B)

Hello,
This month's virtue is EMPATHY. I think empathy means putting yourself in other people's perspectives. It could be understanding other people's lives. I was meant to link empathy to a video, a picture, an article, a GIF. I thought it would be entertaining to link empathy with a video. Here is a QUITE touching video that I found. It is a 4 minute video and I hope that you enjoyed the video as much as how I enjoyed it :)
I think that this video linked to empathy perfectly well because it shows what if you actually knew what did all these people go through, would you look at them differently? I think people can be more empathetic towards others by understanding their conditions, and helping them with it. Maybe, he or she would feel better, and you could be doing a big and good part!

Thanksgiving :D

Thanksgiving in my opinion is a holiday that is a day where people thank God for what they are given. It is a holiday that is celebrated all around the world depending on what ethnicity you follow, though it is commonly a practised tradition in the United States,Canada and the United Kingdom (atleast as far as I know).

For this blogpost, I would like to talk about Canadian Thanksgiving
and you might be wondering why Canada? Well, because I was assigned to and also because I have developed a slight feeling of patriotism towards Canada! (:

Now you must be thinking that heh it's the same as America's Thanksgiving, well I'm here to tell you it's not!

For one, Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October and not November and they also don't have to celebrate it because of religion, though most do.

The second point is that it's not as strongly associated to shopping, as we all know in America, Thanksgiving is before Black Friday, another holiday which we can talk about another time. So, back to my rant about Canada and Thanksgiving.

(My resources for how Canada's Thanksgiving differs from America:
How Thanksgiving in Canada is different (: )

I've done an adequete amount of research and learned that Thanksgiving is a really important holiday, not only spiritually but emotionally too, it is a holiday(for some) where they value the impotance of ethics and for all, it is a holiday where gratitude and love is shared. It brings people closer together, a time to celebrate all the joys in life and look upon the mistakes you've made so that in the future, you can improve. (:
It is a holiday that helps you grow (:

Canadian Thanksgiving Dinner.

Canadian Thanksgiving Dinner is an event that celebrates the blessing and thankful for what has done past year. They will have a large meal during Thanksgiving like Roasted Turkey, fish, corn, squash, carrots,Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream etc. They will also  crave a pumpkin to made the pumpkin more interesting. Thanksgiving dinner related to our Chinese New Year because of we can saw our long lost cousin or family members. We will also have reunion dinner just same and have a big meal. Thanksgiving dinner also related to Christmas that are on December 25th because of we also eat turkey and a very big meal on that day.Everyone on those event will also chatting, eating, and also sharing. The things that interest me is canadian also have some kind of reunion dinner that same as chinese. I'm thankful that I have enough food to eat. Because there are some countries that have no enough food to eat, then they die. And some of the countries were wasting those food by throwing a good quality food to dustbin.

Canadian Thanksgiving ^^

After doing some research, I have learned that thanksgiving is about the harvesting season and being thankful for what you have for the past years as long as you are born. It is also a day where people get together with their friends and families :) They also eat all kinds of food like turkey, salad etc. Strawberries, pie, grapes are also served. Most importantly is the turkey and the pumpkin.

Yusheng
Just like Thanksgiving, families and friends also get together during Chinese New Year. But, Chinese New Year is celebrated in a week, and during that seven days, we visit almost everyone we know. We also have a dish called "Yusheng", it is a must in Chinese New Year, like how turkey is a must during Thanksgiving. During Thanksgiving, there is Thanksgiving dinner, and during Chinese New Year, we have a dinner which is called reunion dinner, its a dinner where we eat with our closest families,
tang yuan

During the reunion dinner, we serve food like dumplings, tang yuan, fish, spring rolls, glutinous rice cake which is called "nian gao". If I celebrated Thanksgiving, I would of course serve turkey. I would also serve fruitcake and pie <3 Since I love mushroom soup, I would serve it. Fruit salad, mashed potato...I am getting hungry. :(

I am thankful that I have the internet xD Because without it, I would't make it through school. I would also be bored everyday at home, because without the internet, I wouldn't have youtube. I am also thankful that I have limbs and I am normal with functioning eyes, nose, mouth and ears. :)

To be honest, I have never celebrated Thanksgiving before, perhaps I can give it a try with my friends and family when I have the chance. :)

Canadian Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving dinner are made from foods native to the New World, as according to tradition the Pilgrims received these foods from the Native Americans.i will serve a turkey ,pie, baked potato, bread and mushroom soup.I learned that thanksgiving dinner have a lot of food and must have a turkey.I thankful that we have food to eat every day.

I think to understand some feeling or share your feeling to your frind or your family that call empathy.

Canadian Thanksgiving 2014

Hello Miss Yates!

An interesting fact about the Canadian Thanksgiving, is that it has a holiday on the second Monday of October! It's fascinating! The reason for the Canadian Thanksgiving is to get families to gather together to spend time with each other. Though on Thanksgiving, all shops, restaurants, work areas, etc are closed due to the festival. Canadians held this festival is because of thanking God that they appreciated what they had throughout the years.

A holiday that Chinese celebrate is Chinese New Year. It's also known as Spring Festival. During this festival, we wear red clothes and put out firecrackers to let no evil spirits come near us or disturb us. Another thing is that we don't sweep the floor during the festival because it is said to be that were sweeping all the fortunes away. Children receives a red packet filled with money inside as it's related to Chinese. The number four, means death to Chinese. The colour can't be black during this festival as it is not respected.

The great thing about this festival is food! During New Year's Eve, we normally eat it with our family as it is a reunion for us. For instance, we eat dumplings, glutinous rice, oranges and many other more. We usually do a mixing of ''yee sang" with chopsticks as you can say anything you want that will bring good luck to you. It is a mixture of raw fish salad. It contains salmon, vegetables and variety of sauces.

The dish that I would serve at Thanksgiving dinner, will be roast turkey!!! I loveeee it a lot! Especially dipping it with the sauce... :P Well, I am thankful that I am in the best school that I've ever been to XD SIS is a very unique school as they have lots of activities! This school is like a dream come true <3 The teachers are just so amazing. Another thing that I am thankful for is... Having great parents! Being the only child is quite okay, however spending time with your family is so lovely :) And of course, thankful for Internet that I can look up at anything and chat with my friends when I am free :D I am also thankful for making all these friends in SIS who are awesome! I hope that time won't fly too fast as this year is flying like an airplane :(

I think that Canadian thanksgiving is an annual  holiday that Canadian celebrates the harvest of the past year. It is a  day that people celebrates and give thanks to their harvest in the year.In Malaysia we also celebrates thanksgiving but we gather with our family and relatives to have a feast.In thanksgiving dinner. I would serve a soup with balls of dough with some mashed peanuts in the dough of the soup. I think i would be thankful that i get to meet with my family altogether for once through out the whole year. I am also thankful that i have a big family and a family who cares about each other.

I think empathy is helping others when they are in need and also feeling how they feel so you can help them with what you have experience or how you overcome it.  This is a link i have that also explain what is empathy and how it can change the  world. This is the link to the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU3QfyqvHk8 . The video is called "Empathy can change the world". This video helps us understand empathy
and gives ideas of how empathy can help people. This video also gives an example of how a chain reaction
can start by having empathy on a person. I Think people cna help each other by being there for them when
they needs us the most. By being there for them can help make them feel better knowing that someone cares
about  them even if it is not their own family

Hi

SIS Video Challenge 2k14 (:

GO TEAM EXTREME!

I think that Team Extreme deserves to win, not only because their my friends, but because their the only middle school team that made it to the TOP 5. How amazing is that? :O

They have all the qualities for a well produced video.
- Good audio.
- Great footage.
- A great balance between being informative and entertaining.

They put in a lot of hardwork into their video entry, spending lots of time editing and making the final cuts so that their video will turn out aweome, I think that it really did turn out really cool and their effort is quite evident! :)

I also think that since they made it into the TOP 5, it shows the highschool kids that even if we middle school kids are younger, we're still capable of producing work of the same quality, if not better! :D

So I say, #Vote4TeamExtreme and show them middle school power!
(You can vote by liking the video, muchly appreciated if you do)

SIS ROCK

  Hello MS YATES!
My name is Gexuan Shi

I like the first video the most. Because it's meaningful. It starts with a people singing, and some of them are playing musical instrument. They also show that there is a good had a problem on her homework, then another classmate go and help her. This is also same as what we are doing all of the time. When we have problem on homework, we also can ask our elbow partner, maybe we an solve the problem together after that we probably can get a good answer. They use the idea of cutting SIS LOGO to many pieces. Different pieces of SIS LOGO were given by a lot of people. This is also mean that if we need to let the SIS to be more perfect, we all need to worked together. This video is just basically talking about what we doing at school.
